The farewell show's ominous title? "Kiki and Herb Will Die for You." "Kiki has always been about death," Justin Bond (above, right) remarks cheerfully. Bond created Kiki along with pianist-musical director Kenny Mellman (Herb) and has played her all over the world since the pseudo-lounge act's debut in San Francisco 11 years ago. "It came out of our political activism. We were trying to draw more attention to AIDS and the Persian Gulf War, and we were trying to get Bush out of office." As things eerily come full circle, Bond and Mellman will bring down the curtain during this critical election year. But is it really the end? "It's on the order of the Cher, Celine Dion, and Barbara Streisand [farewell] concerts," Mellman explains. Adds Bond: "All the greats never truly die."
