The opening of the headquarters, which is located at No. 53 Boulevard Emile Jacqmain in the heart of the historic pentagon of Brussels, marks the consolidation of Fortis employees into one building after being dispersed in downtown offices for the past three years. "The building conveys the dignity and stability of Fortis AG as an important international company. Yet, at the same time, the new headquarters is respectful of its surroundings and is connected to the local community," explains Patrick Burke, AIA and principal of Michael Graves & Associates. The Fortis AG headquarters is a collaborative work in both design and execution, with MGA responsible for the exterior and lobby, resulting in a landmark status building in harmony with its traditional urban surroundings. The 112-meter-long facade is a series of vertical elements and pavilions. The window detailing and facade materials include a bluestone base, cream-colored limestone walls and copper roofing. Terracing back from the street, the upper floors of No. 53 are characteristic of the roof shapes and dormers found in neighboring buildings. Fords AG's logo is featured on the building's cylindrical tower, which faces the corner of Rue St. Michel. Search
