| Survey: New Jersey access to dietary supplements Monica MillerObjective: to assess the accuracy and professionalism by which physician's recommendations for dietary supplements are fulfilled by retail facilities outside the physician's office. Method: Volunteers were given written recommendations for 5 (five) supplements. These recommendations were written on a physician's letterhead, not a prescription form. Volunteers were instructed to visit several retail facilities in New Jersey and attempt to purchase the recommended products. Volunteers were instructed to engage the facility employee in conversation but to not behave in a coercive manner. Volunteers were instructed to purchase all products recommended by the facility employee based upon the physician's list. Further, the volunteer was instructed to assess the employee's educational and training background in relation to the sale and use of dietary supplements. continued below... |
